A pair of separate shootings over the last week in Indiana have left two 12-year-old boys dead. Police said both appeared to be accidents.

Seth Box was shot in the head last Monday in his Geneva, Ind. home by his 16-year-old brother, who was handling a .22 caliber rifle. TV station WHAS reported that the parents of the boys were sleeping at the time of the accident. Box died Thursday at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, according to the Associated Press.

On Saturday, another 12-year-old boy — whose name has not been released — was fatally shot in Modoc, Ind. after a rifle was discharged in his rural home. According to TV station WISH, the victim was shot in the chest by 36-year-old Mitchell Gilliland, who was setting the rifle in his gun cabinet when it went off, hitting the boy in the chest. Gilliland’s relation to the boy is not clear from the report.
