Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) on Wednesday said he agrees with President Obama’s State of the Union call to put gun control legislation to a vote in Congress. “And I think we’ll get a vote because Newtown changed everything in this country,” he said on MSNBC.

Murphy also referenced a firearms lobbyist who said recently that once the “Connecticut Effect” subsides, gun rights advocates can again act on pro-gun legislation. The lobbyist has been disavowed by the National Rifle Association

Murphy insisted the lobbyist is wrong. “It’s not going to dissipate,” he said. “The fact is, this nation has been transformed. I think the President was right to say, listen, Republicans can’t hide from this. They need to call a vote on the floor of the Senate and House and tell the American public what side they are on.”
