New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand dismissed the supposed “war on moms” that dominated the news cycle late last week. “The election is not going to be about Ann Romney or any comments any politician has made,” Gillibrand told Buzzfeed on Monday. Instead, the election will be about President Obama and Romney’s respective positions, Gillibrand said. For example, she pointed out, “[Romney’s] a guy who says the governor of Wisconsin is his hero, he just ended equal pay laws there.”

An advocate of equal pay for equal work, Gillibrand was speaking at an Equal Pay Day event at New York University’s Law School. Gillibrand pointed out Obama’s support of fair pay laws, including that he signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in one of his first acts as president.

“When [women] look at how President Obama has fared in fighting for women and economic opportunity, versus what Mitt Romney’s been advocating, they will overwhelmingly support President Obama.”
