Freshman Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) joked Sunday about Notre Dame football star Manti Te’o, whose supposed girlfriend was revealed this week not to exist, Politico reports

“I graduated Notre Dame in 1977,” Donnelly said at a “New Leaders” brunch sponsored by Politico and Bank of America. “At that time, there were about nine guys for every girl. I laughed, I said, back then, you were allowed to have imaginary girlfriends.”
