State Rep. Joe Carr (R-TN) announced his candidacy for Sen. Lamar Alexander’s (R-TN) seat Tuesday morning.

Carr, who is 55 years old and in his third term in the state House, made the announcement during an interview with Ralph Bristol on Tennessee radio station 99.7 WTN.

“Lamar is popular but there is a disconnect with his popularity to the way he has voted,” Carr said. “And we thought it was rather interesting —more than interesting—that 70 percent of the voters across Tennessee don’t appreciate the fact that he votes with President Obama 62 percent of the time.”

Alexander, a former Tennessee governor and U.S. secretary of education, is seeking a third term in the Senate.
