A spokesperson for Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker said Monday that, despite earlier comments, the Wisconsin governor doesn’t really want to build a wall between Canada and the United States.

On Sunday, NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd asked Walker if he would consider building a wall along the country’s northern border. Walker told Todd that the issue had been raised by some along the campaign trail.

“They raised some very legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks that brought that up to me at one of our town hall meetings about a week and a half ago. So that is a legitimate issue for us to look at,” Walker told Todd.

A spokesperson for Walker said Monday, though, that Walker is not advocating for a wall “despite the attempts of some to put words in his mouth,” according to Scott Bauer, an Associated Press reporter.
