The older brother of former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said Tuesday he’s opting against a run in next year’s open U.S. Senate race in Michigan.
Scott Romney, a Detroit-based corporate attorney who ran an unsuccessful campaign for state attorney general in 1998, told Michigan Information & Research Service that he will pass on a run for the seat currently held by retiring Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI).
Reports surfaced last week suggesting that Romney was considering a run. A survey released Tuesday by Republican firm Harper Polling indicated that Romney was the strongest candidate in the GOP field.
