Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) endorsement of a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants drew bipartisan praise Tuesday from key lawmakers involved in reforming the nation’s broken immigration system.

“The consensus continues to grow in favor of immigration reform that contains a path to citizenship,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who chairs the Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security, in a statement. “While there are certainly differences between our emerging product and Senator Paul’s outline, there is also a lot of common ground.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who also sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, tweeted “@SenRandPaul support for comprehensive immigration reform is another step in the right direction for the Republican Party.”
