A 22-year-old Saudi student arrested in February 2011 for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on the home of former President George W. Bush was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday in federal court in Texas. Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari was convicted in June of one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. A jury found he had purchased chemicals and equipment to make an improvised explosive device.

Federal authorities said Aldawsari’s list of potential targets had included homes of soldiers who were stationed at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, reservoir dams, nuclear power plants, a nightclub and former President Bush’s home in Texas. Aldawsari legally entered the United States in September 2008 and attended Texas Tech University before transferring to South Plains College.
