Rick Santorum explained his “phony theology” comment to host Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation Sunday. Santorum said on the trail over the weekend that Obama’s agenda was based on a “phony theology” and “not a theology based on the Bible.”

Santorum explained that this was a reference to environmentists’ agenda: the idea “that man is here to serve the hearth instead of husband its resources and be good stewards to the earth. That is a phony ideal.” Santorum continued: “earth is not the objective; man is the objective, and I think a lot of radical environmentalists have it upside down.” Though Santorum used language from the Bible in talking about being stewards of the earth, he denied he was making a comment on whether President Obama is a Christian.
