Polls show the Feb. 28 Arizona primary to be neck-and-neck, which is why Politico’s story Tuesday about Rick Santorum actively seeking the famous Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s support could be a big deal.
Politico’s Emily Schultheis:
A Public Policy Polling survey out yesterday found that 32 percent of the state’s GOP voters would be more likely to vote for a candidate with Arpaio’s endorsement. And considering that, in the same survey, Mitt Romney only led Santorum by 3 points, that endorsement could really help tip the scales in Santorum’s favor.
Arpaio endrosed Rick Perry and appeared with him on the campaign trail a few times earlier this year. With Perry out, Arpaio’s endorsement is up for grabs.
