Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Sunday that voters would be choosing between the “lesser of two evils” if his opponent Hillary Clinton went up against GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump in the general election.

Sanders was discussing Clinton and Trump’s unfavorable ratings during an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week.”

“We need a campaign, an election, coming up which does not have two candidates who are really very, very strongly disliked. I don’t want to see the American people voting for the lesser of two evils,” Sanders said.

“I want the American people to be voting for a vision of economic justice, of social justice, of environmental justice, of racial justice,” he continued. “That is the campaign we are running and that’s why we are getting the support we are.”

ABC host George Stephanopoulos asked Sanders if he would describe Trump and Clinton as “the lesser of two evils.” Sanders said that it was the voters’ line.

“Well, if you look – No, I wouldn’t describe it, but that’s what the American people are saying,” Sanders replied. “If you look at the favorability ratings of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, both of them have very, very high unfavorables.”
