Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan will campaign today on this question: Are Americans better off today than they were four years ago? 

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) on Sunday struggled to answer the question, prompting Obama campaign officials to counter Republican attacks by saying firmly the U.S. is better off today than it was four years ago.
