Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) told “Fox News Sunday” he’s unsure if the White House purposely misled Americans on the Benghazi attack last fall in order to win the election.

“I don’t know the answer to that question,” Ryan said. “Rather [than] make a conclusion before an investigation has been completed, we just need to investigate this, for the sake of good government.”

As the Huffington Post notes, that’s a reversal for Ryan, who just last week said he has “no doubt” a White House cover-up took place. Since then the White House made public over 100 pages of internal emails aimed at debunking the claim that they sought to mislead the public.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was more categorical in his assertion of a cover-up, saying the White House “kind of made up a tale” on Benghazi “in order to make it seem like it wasn’t a terrorist attack.”
