Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) warned against “undermining the Second Amendment” in the official Republican response to the State of the Union Tuesday.
“We were all heart broken by the recent tragedy in Connecticut. We must effectively deal with the rise of violence in our country,” Rubio said in his prepared remarks. “But unconstitutionally undermining the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans is not the way to do it.”
Presdient Obama mentioned the Newtown, Conn., and gun violence in his State ofthe Union, calling on Congress to give his proposals a vote and citing poll data showing strong support for universal background checks.
