Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who will deliver the official Republican response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday, told the Associated Press that he will present the GOP as an "alternative" to White House policies and warn of the ills that big government come with "big government."
"We don't just want to be the opposition," Rubio said in the interview, which was published Tuesday. "We want to be the alternative."
He also said that he will set out to dispel the notion the notion that so-called "big government" policies help people.
"Big government does not help you get ahead," Rubio said. "It actually hurts the people who are trying to get ahead."
