Republican operative Karl Rove on Tuesday pushed back against conservative criticism of the Conservative Victory Project, his new super PAC, which aims to support disciplined Senate candidates to win a majority in Congress’ upper chamber.
“This is not to protect incumbent Republicans. It’s to get in races where it’s important to have a winning candidate. It’s to try and find the most conservative candidate who can win, the so-called Buckley rule,” Rove said on Fox News’ “Hannity.”
Rove and his group have come under fire from tea party groups and conservative commentators. The criticism centers around Rove and the group choosing elite, establishment candidates over grass-roots conservatives. Rove on Tuesday instated that isn’t the case, adding he “doesn’t want a fight” with conservative activists.
