Mitt Romney has won the Republican primary in Massachusetts, where polls just closed, according to projections by CNN, Fox News and NBC News.

Massachusetts is of course Romney’s home state, where he raised his family and ran his business, and where he served one term as governor from 2003-2007. He did not seek re-election in 2006, in order to mount his first campaign for president in the 2008 cycle.

However, polling has often suggested that Romney would be very unlikely to carry the Democratic-leaning state in a general election. In the past 50 years it has only voted Republican twice in presidential elections, in the landslide victories of Ronald Reagan.
