Mitt Romney will not repeal the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, according to spokeswoman Andrea Saul.

“He supports pay equity and is not looking to change current law,” she told TPM in an e-mail. Republicans in the House and Senate overwhelmingly opposed the law’s initial passage in 2009, with all but two GOP senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, voting against it.

After advisers said in a conference call they were unsure of Romney’s position on the law, which gives women greater freedom to sue employers over pay discrimination, Democrats quickly pounced and put a statement from Ledbetter herself expressing disappointment.
