Initially slow to respond to attacks that Bain Capital facilitated shipping jobs overseas, the Romney campaign is now out with an ad claiming the attacks are untrue and accusing President Obama of lying about the issue. “When a President doesn’t tell the truth,” a voiceover says in the ad released Thursday, “How can we trust him to lead?”

The ad goes on to quote FactCheck.org calling the attacks “misleading, unfair and untrue.” “There was ‘no evidence’ that Mitt Romney shipped jobs overseas,” the voiceover says.

The ad is in keeping with the Romney campaign’s response to last week when they said in a statement that the Obama campaign’s attacks on his offshore holdings were a “character assault” on the presumptive nominee.
