Mitt Romney on Thursday night took issue with the Obama campaign’s claim that he and Paul Ryan were politicizing the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, demanding that the American people deserve “serious answers” about the nature of the attacks.

“No, President Obama, it’s an issue because this is the first time in 33 years that a U.S. Ambassador has been assassinated,” said Romney at a campaign rally in Asheville, North Carolina. “Mr. President, this is an issue because we were attacked successfully by terroirsts on the anniversary of 9/11. President Obama this is an issue because Americanss wonder why it took so long for you and your administraiton to admit that this was a terrorist attack.”

“This is a very serious issue, these are very serious questions, and the American people deserve serious answers,” Romney added. “And I hope they come soon.”

Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said earlier that “the entire reason that this has become the, you know, political topic it is is because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.”
