The Romney campaign continued to pound President Obama over welfare reform, releasing yet another attack ad alleging that the president ended the work requirement in welfare Monday. The ad cites an editorial from the Richmond Times-Dispatch, which it calls “one of the most respected newspapers in America” in order to add credibility to their argument.

“On July 12th, President Obama quietly ended the work requirement gutting welfare reform,” a voiceover says. “One of the most respected newspapers in America called it ‘Nuts…’”

On Sunday, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) called the welfare attacks racially-charged in an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” defending Vice President Biden’s controversial “chains” comments as far more innocuous.

“I’ll tell you, the injection of race into this campaign has been coming from the false allegations, allegations that PolitiFact and others have said are totally false, on a very racially imbued issue of welfare reform,” O’Malley said. “The false attacks on the president I think are far more out of line than the indelicate choice of words of the vice president.”
