Mitt Romney attacked the Obama administration over its handling of blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng, who traveled to the U.S. embassy after fleeting house arrest. Chen left the embassy for treatment for a foot injury at a hospital. Chen originally said he wanted to live freely in China, but after he heard about threats to his family, he now says he would like to leave China.

Romney today criticized the State Department’s handling of Chen. “If these reports are true, this is a dark day for freedom,” Romney said. “And it’s a day of shame for the Obama administration.”
