Romney campaign communications director Gail Gitcho rebuffed advice — even from conservatives like Bill Kristol — that Mitt Romney should immediately release several years’ worth of tax returns in an interview on MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown” Monday morning.

“We appreciate that we’re going to receive political advice from everyone across the political spectrum,” Gitcho said, after being shown a clip of Kristol urging the campaign to release more returns.

Gitcho’s response to pundits on the left and the right was similar to what other members of the campaign said Sunday: that Romney has already gone “above and beyond” what is required by law.

The fact is, Gov. Romney has released his tax returns and that’s the reason the Democrats continue to talk about it. He released over 500 documents and it’s important to remember that none are required, so Gov. Romney has gone above and beyond what is required of him to be transparent in these tax returns.
