Count another demographic that President Obama and Mitt Romney are sparring over this week to go along with women and young voters: veterans. The Romney camp is out with a release highlighting a 12.1% unemployment among veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
“Under President Obama, all Americans have suffered from one of the worst job markets in recorded history – and our nation’s veterans have been among the hardest hit. With more than twelve percent of our most recent veterans struggling to find work and nearly a million veterans unemployed, it’s clear that we need to do more to grow our economy and ensure that those who fight for America can find a job when they return home,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said.
The statement comes right as Obama is promoting various measures and proposals from the White House to encourage employers to hire veterans. In a related move, Obama is reportedly set to announce a new executive order designed at cracking down at what they consider deceptive practices from for-profit colleges in recruting GI Bill students.
