Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s (R) son was arrested and charged for drunken driving Thursday in Virginia Beach, the Washington Post reported.
Robert Ryan McDonnell, 23, was arrested at about 3:25 a.m. and charged with DWI and refusing to take a blood or breath test, according to a statement from Virginia Beach Police Department. He has since been released from custody, police said.
McDonnell had testified at his parent’s federal corruption trial about gifts that he received from a wealthy businessman, Jonnie Williams. In September, a jury convicted Bob and Maureen McDonnell on 11 and eight counts of corruption, respectively.
The Post reported that McDonnell’s twin brother, Sean, had also been arrested on a public intoxication charge last year.
