The Republican National Committee announced Monday it had filed a Freedom of Information Request (FOIA) with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in an effort to determine how many Americans have officially enrolled in federal health exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.
The Obama administration has been tight-lipped about the actual number of enrollees, but it has disclosed the number of applicants through last week: about 476,000. That number falls a few thousand short of the government’s goal of 500,000 enrollees.
The FOIA asks for:
- “Any and all data recording each successful purchase of a health insurance policy…on any of the Affordable Care Act exchanges administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services…”
- “Any and all documents or communications, including but not limited to relevant emails and letters, regarding the collection of successful enrollee data on or after October 1, 2013…”
