Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, RNC Chairman Reince Preibus said that a proposal to use Rev. Jeremiah Wright to torpedo Barack Obama’s campaign in November was a story Democrats and the President wanted in the media to distract voters from the economy.

“Democrats and Barack Obama that want this story out there, to play out in the media,” because they “don’t have to talk about the economy, jobs and the debt,” Preibus said.

“President Obama [has] a bigger problem, no matter what distractions he puts out there, he can’t escape the economy,” he added.
