Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) has a clear view of the current national immigration system: it’s dumb.

Snyder, speaking Friday in Washington D.C., highlighted studies which indicate a better immigration system would create more jobs.

“Why would we build the dumb system we have today that says, ‘We don’t want you here?'” Snyder said according to the Detroit Free Press.

A day earlier Snyder announced his plan to ask the Obama administration to designate 50,000 immigration work visas for the city of Detroit over the next five years. Those visas are not usually set aside for one particular state or area.

Snyder’s goal is to attract more immigrants to come and work in Detroit.
