Former Texas governor Rick Perry said in a Monday interview that Donald Trump still plans to build a wall along the Mexican border—but the wall will be “digital” rather than physical.
“There are some that hear this is going to be 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso, 30-foot high,” Perry told Snapchat’s Peter Hamby. “Listen, I know you can’t do that.”
Perry had previously expressed skepticism about Trump’s proposal, saying in a January radio interview that such a project would take “literally years” to complete.
Since then, his stance appears to have shifted. “I’m for Donald Trump, and he says we’re going to build a wall, the Mexicans are gonna pay for it,” Perry, who endorsed Trump in May, told Hamby.
“It’s not going to happen,” Hamby fired back.
“Well, it’s not,” Perry responded, and went on to explain: “It’s a wall, but it’s a technological wall, it’s a digital wall.”
It’s unclear exactly what Perry meant, but surely Trump can find a way to make a “digital wall” big and beautiful, too.
