Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) on Wednesday appointed Judge Erleigh Norville Wiley to be the new district attorney in Kaufman County, Texas, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Late last month, the previous district attorney, Mike McLelland, was killed along with his wife in their home in Forney, Texas. No suspects have been named in the crime. Kaufman Assistant District Attorney Brandi Fernandez had been serving as interim district attorney since McLelland’s murder.

From the Morning News:

Wiley is judge of the Kaufman County Court at Law, an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas, and a former supervising attorney for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. She received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
