Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) issued a statement Thursday to express his disapproval of the decision by the Boy Scouts of America to end its longstanding ban on gay youth. The BSA’s ban on gay adults serving in leadership positions remains in place.
Perry, a former Boy Scout, said that the new policy “contradicts generations of tradition in the name of political correctness.”
“The Boys Scouts of America has been built upon the values of faith and family for more than 100 years and today’s decision contradicts generations of tradition in the name of political correctness,” Perry said in the statement. “While I will always cherish my time as a scout and the life lessons I learned, I am greatly disappointed with this decision.”
