A new survey released by IPSOS Public Affairs and sponsored by Reuters shows the president outpolling both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich in hyopthetical general election matchups.
In the nationwide poll of registered voters, Obama bests Romney 48 percent to 42 percent, making it the third consecutive IPSOS survey in which the president tops the former Massachusetts governor. Obama fares even better against Gingrich, winning the matchup 50 percent to 38 percent.
The IPSOS poll reflects the TPM Poll Average, which shows Obama steadily separating himself from Romney since the beginning of the new year.
