The Syrian political opposition does not support the idea of pursing diplomatic negotiations to avoid a military strike in Syria, The Daily Beast reported on Tuesday.

“I really believe that this regime has had so many opportunities and we shouldn’t wait. We need immediate accountability. I doubt very much that the regime would give up its stockpile of chemical weapons just to avert a strike,” Khalid Saleh, official spokesman for the Syrian National Coalition, told the news website. “The regime has committed so many crimes against humanity and was allowed to get away with it. A delay would embolden the regime more.”

According to The Daily Beast, opposition and rebel groups in Syria have been planning strategy around anticipated U.S. strikes.

On Tuesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said his government has accepted Russia’s proposal to put its chemical weapons under international control.
