Fifteen foreign hostages have escaped from an Algerian gas field, where they were held by Islamist militants, Reuters reported Thursday, citing state media. From Reuters:

An Algerian security source said the gunmen, who stormed the gas facility on Wednesday, were demanding safe passage out with their captives. The gunmen say they have been holding as many as 41 foreigners as well as scores of Algerians.

Americans, Japanese and Europeans are among the hostages. The Islamist militants holding the foreigners hostage have demanded that French forces end the “brutal aggression on our people in Mali,” according to CNN.
