Texas Republican John Cornyn received three different government pensions in 2012 worth $65,383 in addition to his $174,000 salary as a U.S. senator, the National Journal reported Monday.

The practice of drawing both a public salary and public pension is often referred to as “double dipping” by its critics.

Cornyn, the second highest ranked Republican in the Senate, is a former district judge, Texas Supreme Court justice and state attorney general.

A big chunk of his pension money—$48,807—came from the Judicial Retirement System of Texas for his time as a Supreme Court justice from 1991 to 1997.

Another $10,132 in retirement benefits came from Employees Retirement System of Texas, which he received for his three years as the state’s attorney general. And he took in $6,444 in retirement distribution from the Texas County and District Retirement System for his tenure as a state district judge.

Cornyn’s office did not respond to the National Journal for comment, nor has it yet responded to a request by TPM.
