Scott Romney, the older brother of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, is said to be considering a run in Michigan’s open U.S. Senate race next year, a source told Roll Call on Friday.

A Detroit-based corporate attorney, Scott Romney would run as a Republican. In 1998, he fell short in his bid to win the GOP nomination in Michigan’s attorney general race.

The 2014 Senate race in Michigan was upended somewhat on Thursday with news that Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) will not seek re-election in 2014. A poll released Friday indicated that Levin likely would have won another term had he decided to run.
