President Barack Obama will pick Jason Furman, one of his own economic and policy experts, to serve as the new chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, the Wall Street Journal and others reported late Tuesday.
The Journal cited “people familiar with the matter” in its report.
If chosen, Furman will succeed Alan Krueger, who is stepping down as the White House’s chief economist to return to Princeton University in the fall. Obama on Tuesday described Krueger as someone who “understands the economy better than almost anyone.”
