Attorney General Eric Holder reportedly felt “a creeping sense of personal remorse” upon reading the Washington Post’s much-talked about story on the Department of Justice’s subpoena of a Fox News reporter, unnamed aides told The Daily Beast in a story published Tuesday.

According to The Beast, although he signed off on the subpoena, “the gravity of the situation didn’t fully sink in” for Holder until the Post obtained the affidavit for a search warrant to obtain Fox’s James Rosen’s personal emails and reported on it in a front page story published earlier this month.

On Monday, News Corp, the media conglomerate that owns Fox News, said it has no record of being notified by the government of the subpoena.
