Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 19-year-old suspected of bombing the Boston marathon, told his mother in a phone interview on Monday that he was “absolutely fine” as he continues to recover from a violent encounter with police last month.
“I couldn’t stop myself from crying,” Zubeidat Tsarnaeva said in an phone interview, according to Bloomberg News. “He said: ‘I am absolutely fine, my wounds are healing. Everything is in God’s hands. Be patient. Everything will be fine.’”
Tsarnaev faces a possible death sentence for allegedly setting off two explosions near the finish line of the marathon with his brother, Tamarlan, who died after the attack. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is being held at an all-male federal prison hospital in Ayer, Mass. His mother says she is allowed to contact her son once a month.
