The body of a man believed to be fugitive Christopher Dorner was found Tuesday near Big Bear, Calif., in the rubble of a mountain cabin, which caught fire during a stand-off with law enforcement, the Associated Press reported

The man believed to be Dorner never came out of the cabin, and a single shot was heard inside before the cabin was engulfed in flames, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

Police officers across Southern California launched a massive manhunt last week for Dorner, an ex-cop who was suspected of killing three people. A sheriff’s deputy was killed Tuesday in a gunfight at the cabin that burned down.

Update (11:18 p.m. ET): A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said late Tuesday that earlier reports of a body being found were false, and that investigators had not yet entered the cabin.
