Amazon has begun offering Amazon Prime — it’s free two-day shipping and unlimited movie and TV streaming membership program — for $7.99 a month, Bloomberg reported Tuesday morning. The move puts Amazon in clear competition with streaming video leader Netflix, which also costs $7.99 a month for just unlimited streaming.
Amazon Prime launched as just a shipping program in the U.S. in 2005 and added Amazon Instant Video streaming in February 2011. Up until now, the only option has been an annual membership at $79 a year.
