Tom Emmer, the 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate in Minnesota, has an event planned Wednesday where he is expected to announce his candidacy for the House seat that will be vacated by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), according to the Associated Press. The event is scheduled to be held in Emmer’s hometown of Delano, Minn.

Bachmann’s decision to not seek re-election in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District effectively cleared the field, with her would-be Democratic challenger, hotel mogul Jim Graves, following suit shortly after the tea party heroine’s announcement.

Emmer lost a close race in 2010 to Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton (D).
