Reince Preibus: Media Is To Blame For GOP’s Problems With Women

Polls showing Republicans cratering with women voters, but RNC Reince Priebus is blaming the press for repeating Democrats’ ongoing claim that the GOP is waging a “war on women,” not the GOP’s recent push to allow employers to keep contraception coverage from their insurance. 

“If the Democrats said we had a war on caterpillars and every mainstream media outlet talked about the fact that Republicans have a war on caterpillars, then we’d have problems with caterpillars,” Priebus told Bloomberg TV. “It’s a fiction.”

Democrats quickly blasted the quote out on Twitter, but several prominent spokesman mischaracterized Priebus as likening women to caterpillars, an inaccurate but more politically explosive claim. Priebus clearly indicated the opposite: that the notion of a GOP “war on women” was as absurd as the notion of a war on caterpillars.

DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz tweeted that “Women’s health=caterpillars?”

“[Mitt Romney got this started by attacking women’s health care,” DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse tweeted. “Now RNC Chair compares women to caterpillars.
