Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) echoed President Obama on Monday, saying the country was failing in its obligation to keep citizens safe.

“We need to accept reality that we’re not doing enough to protect our citizens,” Reid said on the Senate floor, following a moment of silence for the victims of the Newtown, Conn. school shooting.

“Every idea should be on the table on how best to do just that,” Reid added.
