Any effort to reform the nation’s broken immigration system must include a path to citizenship, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said on Friday, according to the Las Vegas Sun:

Meeting Thursday morning at his Searchlight home, Reid outlined his top priorities for the U.S. Senate in 2013, including immigration reform, to reporters who cover the Southern Nevada Hispanic community.

“There will be nothing done in my Senate (on immigration reform) without a pathway to citizenship,” he said.

While President Obama is reportedly expected to announce that he will pursue immigration reform later this month, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Chuck Schumer(D-NY) are working together to frame an underlying frame around which a bipartisan debate can take shape in Congress.

Two of the GOP’s brightest stars, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), have also recently signaled they would publicly back some form of broad immigration reform.
