Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said on Monday that he hopes to schedule a final Senate vote on the nomination of Chuck Hagel as defense secretary later this week.
“We hope on Wednesday and/or Thursday we’ll be able to finish the Hagel nomination,” Reid said on the Senate floor. “Mr. President, there’s never in the history of the country ever been a filibuster on a defense secretary, and I’m confident there won’t be on this one. But I’m told the committee will report this matter out tomorrow, and we will move this to the Senate floor just as quickly as possible.”
Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee tasked with reporting the nomination to the full Senate, announced earlier today that he would be calling for a vote doing so on Tuesday at 2:30pm ET.
