Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told reporters Tuesday that Democrats may have a path forward on reviving gun legislation expanding background checks, but he suggested it’s still a work-in-progress.

In response to a question from TPM, Reid said he’s spoken to the White House and key senators involved in the issue since the Manchin-Toomey bill fell prey to a filibuster last Wednesday.

“We are working on a path forward,” Reid said. “I think we have one, but we’re not ready to move on that at this time.”

“We’re going to do our best to get something just as soon as we can,” he said. “It’s really an issue that I feel very strongly about and the American people do also.”
