Shortly after terminating Ray Rice’s contract on Monday, the Baltimore Ravens scrubbed a tweet indicating that the running back’s wife had taken some responsibility for a domestic violence incident earlier this year.

The tweet was published in May, but it was widely circulated on Monday after a video emerged reportedly showing Rice punching his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, inside an Atlantic City hotel elevator.

The footage has sparked tremendous public outrage, prompting the Ravens to cut Rice and the NFL to suspend him indefinitely.
