Steve Rattner, President Obama’s former ‘car czar,’ said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Tuesday that the president had hit the right note on private equity when he said Monday at a press conference in Chicago that the point was not to attack private equity itself but to question Mitt Romney’s credentials for being president. Last week, Rattner said he thought the Obama campaign’s attack ads aimed at Bain Capital were “unfair.” Republicans used Rattner’s comments, even including Rattner in a video, with Newark Mayor Cory Booker and former Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. who also expressed concern with the ads, of Democrats who don’t want to attack private equity.

Rattner echoed what Obama said Monday, stressing the idea that private equity is about maximizing profit, not creating jobs.
